On Sunday 26 May, Prime Minister Scott Morrison unveiled his new Ministry, bringing together the experience and stability of service in key portfolios, while bringing in new members that will add their “own experience, skills and passion to the job ahead.”
Morrison noted that the task ahead would be to deliver commitments to:
Create 1.25 million more jobs over the next five years
Maintain budget surpluses and pay down debt
Deliver tax relief for families and small businesses
Guarantee increased funding for schools, hospitals, medicines and roads
Keep Australians safe, including online, and keeping our borders secure
A key focus for all of Ministers and their Departments will be lifting performance on government service delivery, including “congestion busting on regulatory and bureaucratic roadblocks” and making better use of technology and better integrating service delivery across portfolios.
Learning from NSW’s recent experience, Morrison will establish a new Services Australia agency to drive greater efficiencies and integration of government service delivery, with top of the list for improving services being the National Disability Insurance Scheme.

On Monday 27 May, Anthony Albanese, the Member for Grayndler (NSW) became the 21st leader of the Australian Labor Party. Albanese was the only nominee for the position of Party Leader and was elected unopposed. In his first press conference as Opposition Leader-elect, Albanese commented:
“There are many lessons we need to learn from Saturday as outcome. One of them is that the election is not determined six months beforehand, even three months beforehand, perhaps even some might say, a month beforehand... I intend to hasten slowly when it comes to policy development and you will have to be patient because, as we have all seen, there is a lot of concentration in recent times about what the next fortnight’s poll is."
